European Central Bank

The European Central Bank (ECB) is the central bank for the euro and administers monetary policy of the Eurozone, which consists of 19 EU member states and is one of the largest currency areas in the world. It is one of the world's most important central banks and is one of the seven institutions of the European Union (EU) listed in the Treaty on European Union (TEU).

      The nominal effective exchange rate (EER) index is a summary measure of the external value of a currency vis-à-vis the currencies of the most trading partners, while the real EER - obtained by deflating the nominal rate with appropriate price or cost indices - is the most commonly used indicator of international price and cost competitiveness.       The Main Refinancing Rate or minimum bid rate is the interest rate which banks do have to pay when they borrow money from the ECB.
