      • 2016-2020: Calculated by the APP by using Real Clear Politics and 538.com (Nate Silver) poll averages. The average published on the Monday of the convention week and average published the Monday following the convention week were used for comparison, and are rounded to whole integers. These averages include polling that ended the Sunday before the convention began and ending on the Sunday following the convention. Beginning in 2016, Gallup no longer conducts voter preference surveys. • 2008-2012: Calculated by the APP from Gallup poll ending on the Sunday before the convention and poll ending on the Sunday after the convention. • 1964-2004 data calculated by Gallup

The Public Papers of the Presidents contain most of the President's public messages, statements, speeches, and news conference remarks. Documents such as Proclamations, Executive Orders, and similar documents that are published in the Federal Register and the Code of Federal Regulations, as required by law, are usually not included for the presidencies of Herbert Hoover through Gerald Ford (1929-1977), but are included beginning with the administration of Jimmy Carter (1977). The documents within the Public Papers are arranged in chronological order. The President delivered the remarks or addresses from Washington, DC, unless otherwise indicated. The White House in Washington issued statements, messages, and letters unless noted otherwise. *Note: Total REG data is incomplete or unavailable in some states, making it appear in some years as though more people voted than were registered to vote. From 1976 through 2004, this is due to the fact that North Dakota does not have voter registration, and in Wisconsin eligible voters may register to vote at the polls.
